Train like a Troupe

Lou Machonachie (Aus) and Amy Crawford (Aus)

Ever wanted to start your own troupe but didn’t know where to begin? The co-founders of Lighbulb Improv want to share their knowledge on forming, storming, norming and performing a troupe.

The Lightbulb Improv troupe started in 2016 with 13 people who bravely responded to an audition call to start something that didn’t exist in Canberra. Through weekly training, the troupe has gone on to become a popular highlight of the Canberra comedy scene with their monthly show ‘Switched On’ and festival performances.

This workshop will share with you our approach to training and the exercises we use to hone our skills. We will share what we’ve learned about starting a troupe from scratch, with admin and marketing insights and tips on how to train to connect players.

Lightbulb Improv promotes a style of play that is mischievous and sincere with strong elements of physicality and storytelling. Co-founders, Lou Maconachie and Amy Crawford are keen to share the Lightbulb style of play, collaborate with other troupes and find the joy of free-play offered by NZIF.
